Today, we are celebrating two important milestones. First, is that Susannah & Alex’s wedding blog post is live… AND it’s their one year anniversary month! Second, is that this is my first blog post ever…. *cue the over-dramatic, I’ll never write something to sum up the day perfect enough, jitters*
Wanna know the best way to get rid of writing blog post jitters? Be blessed with the kindest, most loving, supportive, caring, and encouraging clients in the world. Because that is exactly what I had with Susannah and Alex. From the moment Susannah asked me to photograph her big day, I couldn’t have looked forward to this day more! Not to mention that they have one of the cutest dating stories ever.
Alex and Susannah met in college. He was a football player, and she played volleyball. Apparently he had been dropping hints to his friends that he was interested in her, and she repeatedly was asked by them “if she knew who Alex was?” She grew suspicious, and eventually with the help of some green beer on St. Patty’s day she bumped into his friends and asked where he was that night. Being the extremely disciplined guy he is, he wasn’t going to go out, but decided to to meet her. He was such a gentleman, and she knew he was something special. They dated for about a year, but ended up ending things.. They remained cordial in the time they were apart, and a couple of years later he reached out to her again. He was in town, and wanted to grab a drink! They ended up spending 4 hours on a rooftop bar in Cincinnati, and never turned back. The proposal was what he knew as her idea of perfect. He picked a way to incorporate all of her favorite places, and managed to get her to them ALL. One place in particular is a piece of land in the middle of nowhere, which was where he actually proposed. With the help of her brother, he convinced her that they needed to go there to help train the dog (mind you the weather was cold, and starting to rain). She learned quickly that they didn’t actually need her help, so decided to bail and go sit in the truck! Alex yelled after her “Sus, wait!” When she turned around, there he was on one knee! To celebrate, he had her favorite people at her favorite coffee shop waiting to surprise her! It was such a sweet and special day. Talk about a keeper!
Susannah and Alex have always had a special place in my heart. I first met Alex in 2015. Yes, you read that correctly: over 6 years ago, when they were in “part 1” of their story 😉 See, my sister happened to marry this super rad guy, who happens to be Susannah’s brother. While I have known Sus long before this day, her brother becoming my brother-in-law sealed the deal in knowing just how special she was going to be in my life. Susannah’s family quickly became my own, as we’ve spent so many holiday’s and occasions together through the years. Here’s one big virtual Internet hug 🙂
Fast forward to Susannah and Alex’s wedding day. In all seriousness, this weddings was one of the biggest honors of my career, and I’m still so humbled just thinking about it. There was beauty in every detail, planned so thoughtfully by Susannah and her family, led by the incredibly talented Stephanie and Michelle with Forget Me Knot Events and the day so sweetly reflected the love Sus and Alex have for each other. The overall vision for the day was to keep it simple and timeless, but modern and fun! They got married in the Catholic Church, specifically the one Sus grew up in as a kid. They lost a couple of people who they planned to have in their bridal party, and wanted to be reminded of their presence on their big day. In an effort to do so, they incorporate their favorite colors (orange and yellow) in their details and made it truly feel as though they were right there with you all day long.
I feel so proud of this wedding, especially since several members of the bridal party are my family, and it turned out to be one of my favorites! Prepare for image overload because this first blog post might become my longest ever!
Susannah and Alex, thank you for the trust you placed in me. Thank you for every kind word. You are world-class encouragers and truly know how to make people feel loved. I am so excited to see where this new chapter takes you as you enter this next season in life.
I’m already looking forward to the next time I get to squeeze you both!
